Just received my Country Living grain mill
Wow this thing is built like a tank! It's made out of this steel which puts my car's frame to shame. I had to wait a really long time for my order to finally get fulfilled and shipped to me- I guess they are having trouble keeping up with the demand right now. I think I waited around 2 months for this!
But so far it's looking like it's going to be well worth the big price tag. It looks like it will last forever! Big thumbs up to this mill! |

If you are thinking about grinders you should start at Walton Feed. And for foods, same place.

Did you get the handle extension? If not, I would strongly recommend it, as it certainly makes the grinding easier. Also, make sure you attach it to something sturdy (either permanently, or with clamps). Then you're not fighting to keep it steady. I really like mine. I haven't used it a lot, but it's really nice. I also purchased the corn auger (I do like my corn bread), and an extra set of grinders and a Just-in-Case kit. I figure it will long outlast my kids.
I picked mine up at: www.everythingkitchens.com I bought the Country Living Mill Package (only paid $385 for mine, youch). |

How do you buy corn for making corn meal to use in corn bread? All I can find are either already ground corn (corn meal) or "popcorn". Don't they sell whole kernels used for grinding into corn meal? Or is that what popcorn basically is? |
Re: Just received my Country Living grain mill
If you get the chance set it up to run off the crank of a bicycle, peddle power is alot easier in a true SHTF scenario, plus you could run an alternater also .

Popcorn (50lb bags at Sams) reportedly works well and is tasty for cornbread. Popcorn is a little different from dent and sweet corn in that it has a thicker, harder hull to make it pop. Some grinders are not tough enough to handle popcorn. A possible alternate source for corn is feed stores. Mine carries big bags of triple-washed and otherwise untreated whole corn. I've bought some on the recommendation of others but haven't gotten around to trying it yet. |
